When you think about Ways of Working, what comes to mind? Agile, processes and procedures, something completely different or just another buzzword that hasn’t creeped into your dialogue yet.

There are definitions out there about ways of working.  I even included a few below doing a quick google search.  Maybe your own organization or team has a definition of what that means in the context or your own environment.  At Bold2Move, Ways of Working is a quintessential pillar that we address and work with our clients on. And it is true it includes items like work tools and methods.  Which can be anything from processes and procedures to Agile principles or Waterfall methods – really endless.

Additionally, it also heavily connected to the company culture and leadership.  As both play a huge part of not only what Ways of Working means and is defined but how it is lived and accepted. Which leads us to talk about the being and doing, the head and the heart.  At first look, one might think Ways of Working is just about the head, the how things get done, by who and when.  And maybe at surface level that could work for some time.

From what we have seen and what we believe in, is that the heart, the being is just as important if not more.  That all the procedures and method trainings can only take a team, culture or transformation so far.  That at some point, you need to think about the why and what in context of the heart.  Are leaders walking the walking? Are the changes reflected in the company’s core values? Are spaces and environments actually shifting to make any change possible? And we hope these questions are coming first, before a Ways of Working is adjusted or transformed.

All the tools and trainings in the world, do not replace the need for the right mindset and attitude. From our experience, you have to spend the same amount of time and attention, if not more to uncovering what the current status is and the future state.  Going through the same change process if going from waterfall to agile needs to happen to what fundamentally changes in expected and needed behaviours, attitudes and mindsets. This month we want to share some insights into Ways of Working. Of course we will only touch the surface, spark curiosity, challenge the status quo, motivate understanding. We will share insights and tips into the doing and being behind to start the journey including building or relearning new habits.
