Inside Bold2Move: Summer Reboot: Phase 1 Complete ✔️

Work life balance doesn't need the first two words. For me personally, I want or would like to have the balance. A balance of challenges, stress, fun, excitement, joy, sparks of creativity and so on. For me the focus is not where it falls - work or life - as they can often intertwine. I don't want to have the feeling of 'surviving' to the weekend or dreading Mondays.
So what better time to regroup and rebalance than using the summer months (as I am fortunate here in Germany). Phase 1, as I will now call it was heading back home to the US. Where it was I had two 'goals' or rather intentions:
1️⃣ Total shut down for a brain break
🙅♀️For me, this meant no emails, LinkedIn, 'work' books, and of course no work. I embraced this with a fun and playful out of office message -'Bold moves need bold rests'
📵I was conscious with my 'screen time.' Stepping away from my devices as much as possible. Can't discipline my nephews for something I am doing. Even played some good ole Solitaire with real, physical cards!
📖Fun books and shows only. I didn't tap into my podcast backlog or open up a business book either. Rather allowed myself to get lost elsewhere and limited myself to bringing just one book :) 🌳Stayed present. Which I have to say is a lot easier with nephews that are 8, 11 and 14, My normal walks with Hayward that lead to to do list, ideas and rabbit holes were replaced with playful walks with games of I spy and my 'invented' game A, B, C (where you had to look and find something that started with each of the letters A to Z).
2️⃣Reflect and be honest on what I want to change
🗑️Throw out the old to do lists. This was once a tip I shared with an old colleague. The thinking being, that having these large open list can actually hinder us from moving forward. That we think or hold space for what is not done. So one step I made was find those open lists and recycle them (or delete if virtual) and start with the now. ⚡And I am not making lists to make lists but rather to see where my energy needs to fall (some things we just need to get down), where is is best used (creativity and full filling things) and where it could be used but in the future (things that are not time pressured but don't want to forget).
🔎This process gave more focus. Allowed me to again connect with the business goals we set for Bold2Move and for the personally ones I have set for myself.
🎬Action, Action, Action.
🆘Two quotes I will be repeating often from Bella Hegarty's 'Get sh*t done this summer: Maximise your quiet season with purpose' webinar:
'Nothing changes now, nothing is still going to change' (This is regardless of how many good ideas you have)
'Reflect, refocus and take action' - yes, Bella these are the exact steps I am making!
🆘 Another great resource I will be referencing is Brittany Canaski from Hello Velocity's 'WEBINAR: Work-Life Balance for Leaders - YouTube':
Will use the upcoming months (large focus in August) to experiment with new routines and 'calendar', finding what works for me to have positive productivity and habits.
As also ready mentioned, the first action I have and needed to take was a change in my ways of working. I had some ideas already going into my summer reboot, watching this webinar, gave me a few more and a better mindset to try on!
So now what? First half of 2025 is done☑️, second half is ready to dive into 🐬
I might be back from my summer reboot. However, in Europe many are still out or will be out. August will still be time for me. To prioritize, to reflect on my to do's, review my 2025 goals and adjust. 'The only way to get sh*t down this summer is to take action' (Bella Hegarty)
🗓️My calendar / planner is to help me stay focused and prioritized. Yet is flexible to allow for flow, changes (if and only if it is needed),
🧪Make things exist and get into action. It is not about perfection. Everything can be an experiment or a trial/pilot period.
🧠Mindset is key! Be patient and caring with my self. Celebrate wins and celebrate when you learn.
